"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. - Matthew 5:38-40 (ESV)
I think it is time for Christians to realize who they have crawled into bed with this election season. It seems the prevailing belief in the apostate church today is that we can play footsie with the devil, and it has no effect on our character, and our witness to the lost. Please keep in mind, this is not dealing with who we ultimately vote for. That is a decision we should all reach in prayer, understanding that Jesus will not be waiting for us with our voting records in his hands as the lunatic Jack Hibbs recently tried to teach. Nor, as Hibbs wrote, will we be subject to subject to eternal unquenchable fires if we vote Democratic or even if we choose to not vote at all. No, what I am speaking about is the vociferous, enthusiastic defense of evil, no matter how lesser we have deemed it to be, while ignoring all of the trappings that come with it. We have seen for the past few months Christian leaders promote Donald Trump with varying degrees of certainty. Some are unapologetic about all of the baggage that comes with that enthusiasm. People like Mario Murillo and Greg Locke have said if you do not vote for Trump, you are literally going to hell and are beyond the redemptive powers of Jesus Christ. Others play this dissociative game where they think they can demand you vote for Trump, while sort of denouncing some of the rhetoric that comes with him. We have all heard the notion that we like his alleged policies but maybe not so much the "tweets" or angry, hate filled comments at his rallies. Or that the comments from the people he clearly supports somehow do not fall upon him, even though he is the head of the ticket.
What we fail to realize is that the lost (remember them) only see what we support and who is standing with what we support. Now, maybe you cheered the spectacle yesterday at Madison Square Garden. I saw many Christians reposting pictures and applauding loudly despite what was actually being said. Think for a moment what it does to your personal witness for Christ that you are supporting the comments that the Island of Puerto Rico is a "floating garbage dump," as was said by one of Trump's speakers yesterday. Or the crude jokes about how Latinos love breeding. Or referring to Kamala Harris as the antichrist and the devil. Or the racist trope that Harris would be the first Samoan (she is not), Malaysian (she is not), low IQ (she is not) person to be elected president. As we teach in discernment ministries all the time, who we choose to share our platform with matters. It is people like the compromised Dr. Michael Brown who never gets this. He thinks nothing of sharing the stage with Tood White, Benny Hinn, Bill Johnson, Jennifer LeCalire and Joseph Prince, for example. Even the actual quotes from Trump himself were no better. He tripled down on using the Hitler reference of the "enemy within" to describe democrats even though he has already said he would use the military to arrest them. Quite frankly, I am amazed that Christians can so easily abandon the gospel and Christ to promote such evil. We have become numb to it thanks to the NAR dominionism infecting local churches today. We do not even recognize who we are in bed with. Case in point for today is Pastor Joel Webbon from Covenant Bible Church, in where else, Texas.
Webbon is an ardent Trump apologist and supporter. He is proud of this and is deluded into thinking his position is biblical. Perhaps we like being on the same page but we ought not to be. Pastor Webbon has openly and smugly advocated for repealing the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote. Did you get that? He also insists that he has so abused his wife that she agrees with this nonsense and that he does not allow her to read a book unless he has pre-approved it. Is this the man you want to be found in agreement with? This is the MAGA Christian platform. Stop dancing around it like it is not. If you are thinking, "well, it is not that bad," it gets worse. In a recent SERMON, this idiot said that because Deuteronomy 19 says that false accusers should face the same fate described in the crime, that women who "play the victim," should be publicly executed today.
"If that were to occur, and the just penalties were to be enforced, you the false accuser is now put to death"and that's a public death, a public sentence, publicly carried out. Then the citizens of these United States of America, you know what they would do? #MeToo would end real fast. False accusing, playing the victim when you're actually not? You know how to end that real fast? All you have you do is publicly execute a few women who have lied." - Joel Webbon
Make sure you digest this insanity. This is what the Christian movement now stands for. Dr. Brown might poo-poo it, but I guarantee the Hibbs, Murillos and Lockes of the world would be shouting amen. So would Steven Strang, Brown's boss. I should not have to debunk this but to be safe - this is bat-poop crazy and unbiblical obviously. Webbon referred to this retributive practice as a "timeless principle." What? Does Joel Webbon own a New Testament? Jesus Himself dealt with these Deuteronomy verses, which are the classic "eye for an eye" scriptures. We see in the key verses today that Jesus changed this standard from an eye for an eye to turning the other cheek. So, to pretend this is a timeless principle is asinine and not aligned with God, period full stop. Even if somehow, Jesus had not said this, that still would not mean that God established this code for the theocracy of Israel as some kind of a blueprint for America today. I would call this misogynistic but that would be an insult to misogynists. By the way, the me-too movement was not filled with false witnesses. Imagine if this was your wife or daughter making these accusations. Would you be so quick to denounce them as false and call for their public execution? As a pastor? During a sermon? After being called out for this garbage, Webbon doubled down, in true MAGA style:
"The biblical penalty for rape is death. Therefore, if a woman lies about being raped, the biblical penalty for her is also death. This is what I clearly taught in the sermon." - Joel Webbon
