Facing Accusations About 2nd Alleged Victim, Michael Brown Admits 'Emotional' Relationship
The hits just keep on coming. Dr. Michael Brown's scandal just keeps metastasizing with each passing day as the victims come forward and reveal that Dr. Brown not only was wildly inappropriate with them 23 years ago but his story now trying to survive the scandal is potentially riddled with outright lies. Ironically, Julie Roys is reporting also that the Messianic Jewish ministry Tikkun Global released a statement on Brown that in part said they did not agree with "cancelling" or trial by social media as a substitute for biblical process where witnesses are heard and the accused are allowed to respond. I say ironic because it is statements like this that are so wrong in how the Charismaniacal machine rallies around the wolves to the detriment of the sheep. Positions such as Tikkun's are designed to sound reasonable but to cast shade upon the realities already known. We know for a fact that someone from Dr. Brown's camp tried to call Sarah "Erin" Monk to get her to stand down instead of accusing Dr. Brown. We know that a fundraising email was sent out implying that Monk was working in concert with the devil to destroy Brown's ministry. We found out yesterday that Ms. Monk has flat out stated that Brown is abjectly lying when he says that his behavior towards her was just because he saw her as a daughter, that this was somehow contained to public lapses in judgment and that the alleged meeting where he deeply apologized following Matthew 18 incorrectly, NEVER HAPPENED. So, stop clutching year pearls. Dr. Brown is not being cancelled by anything except what appears to be his lying to cover up his sins from many years ago. He is not being tried by social media. It is Dr. Brown that keeps leveraging his social media and actual media platforms to continue to try and distract, distort and dissuade people from finding out the truth. The biblical process is being followed here. The witnesses have spoken. Dr. Brown can decide to answer the accusations if he so chooses but instead, he is hiding behind the investigation that has been agreed to. So, when you hear these defenses, realize that it is always about trying to control the flow of information. Unfortunately for Brown, no sooner that he released an updated statement yesterday we also saw Erin identify herself and release her own statement revealing the lies she says are contained in Brown's statement. That brings us to today however, which saw the husband of the second victim, who passed away a few years ago, coming out to reveal even more damning accusations about Brown's behavior and the apparent falseness of his statements so far. The full reporting by the excellent Julie Roys is found in the above link, so let us reason once more together beloved through the highlights in this article.
"Just two hours before Brown posted the video, The Roys Report (TRR) reached out to him to request comment on allegations he had sexual conversations with a woman about 20 years ago, with whom he was "obsessed." After posting the video online, Brown responded that he'd have a statement to TRR by the evening after he conferred with his board. About an hour later, TRR emailed him about the video. Brown replied that the video would be his only statement, as per his board's instruction. The allegations came from the husband of a woman referred to in a previous TRR article on allegations against Brown. In the article, "Erin," Brown's alleged first victim, tells of finding a note in Brown's handwriting that described sexual conversations Brown was having with another woman." - Julie Roys
Now, remember that Brown has said multiple times that there was no adulterous behavior but here we have the implication that the second victim, which is the one that Sarah Monk found the confessional letter from Brown about, involved sexual conversations. I think it is important also to note that Dr. Brown could respond to any and all allegations. This "my board won't let me" defense is weak at best and designed to provide cover. If the truth is how Dr. Brown describes it, why would he care what his board has to say? Seems like this is just a convenient excuse. Sadly, the second victim has apparently passed away but her surviving husband was around 23 years ago when this all transpired. He is the "other spouse" Brown referenced. So, he is a direct witness to the events in discussion. Roys reports the identity of the victim and the husband remain protected but that they have verified their identities with other former FIRE school students and administrators. Let us now examine some of the specific allegations from the husband, who is being referred to as "Ray."
'Ray claimed Brown pursued an "inappropriate" relationship with his wife about 20 years ago in 2001 to 2002 when she was 41 and Brown was 46. Ray said that he and his wife considered Brown, a prominent leader for the Brownsville revival in the 1990s and founder of FIRE School of Ministry, to be their spiritual leader. "It is my view that he became infatuated and obsessed with her, learned over time some of her vulnerabilities, exploited that, and manipulated her into a place that she did not desire or intend," Ray said. "In short, a victim to a man who postured and prided himself to be one of our spiritual leaders." Ray had previously declined to comment about what transpired between his wife and Brown. However, Ray objected to Brown's characterization of Brown's relationship with his wife, which we reported in our previous article.
Brown reportedly told former FIRE staff Kris Bennett that Ray's wife had said something inappropriate to Brown, which Brown documented in the note Erin found. Ray said he interpreted this as blaming Ray's wife for what happened, but Ray says Brown deserves the blame. "I don't want him to throw my wife under the bus," Ray said. "She does not deserve that at all. . . . You can't just leave it there without some context. Especially if Mike controls the narrative, he's going to end up being a victim."' - Roys Report
Roys goes on to cite the opinion of Boz Tchividjian, an attorney specializing in sexual abuse cases, that this dynamic would be considered clergy sexual abuse because of the power differential between Brown and Ray's wife. It is certainly good that while the story of Sarah/Erin was between a man in his forties trying to groom a girl of 19, this one appears to be of two consenting adults. What gets lost in that though is the position Brown held at the time. He is in a position of spiritual authority, which is what Ray is trying to speak to. They viewed Brown not only as a spiritual leader but that Brown carried himself in that authority. The accusation here is very clear. Dr. Michael Brown, in a position of spiritual authority and while building a holiness-based ministry, exploited and manipulated the vulnerabilities of another man's wife in a sexual nature and then tried to play it off as if the woman was the one that initiated the inappropriate conduct. Ray, considered a secondary victim to this scandal, is protecting his wife's memory and recognizes that Dr. Brown's employed narratives are designed to cast himself as the victim or at the very least in the most positive light possible. This is something we have addressed as this has unfolded. The statement Dr. Brown put out and this updated video from yesterday are an attempt to sound as reasonable and contrite as possible but the victims keep contradicting what Brown is saying is very damning ways.
"Yesterday afternoon, Brown claimed in the video that he was repentant in 2002 for his emotional relationship with another woman. However, Ray said that's not true. He said Brown reluctantly admitted to the details when confronted with them, but "it was like pulling teeth." Yesterday afternoon, Brown also addressed what happened with his first alleged victim, Erin. "Please forgive me for my actions which caused you so much pain," he said in the video. "Had I more clearly understood the result of those actions in 2002 I would have responded very differently." Previously, Brown said his relationship with Erin was "nonsexual," lacked judgment, and resulted from him treating her like family. However, Erin told TRR Brown had a pattern of kissing her on the lips and slapping her butt. Yesterday, Erin came out publicly on social media as Sarah Erin Monk, her maiden name. She accused Brown of lying when he said earlier that he and his wife met with Monk years ago to follow the method of reconciliation outlined in Matthew 18 and to apologize to her. "Well, it NEVER happened," Monk wrote in her statement yesterday. "The idea that he apologized to me in this meeting is a complete fabrication." Monk said the only meeting she had with Brown and his wife was when she confronted him about finding the letter about Ray's wife, whom Monk said she now believes was a victim. "He has lied, and I lied for him for two decades, protecting him and his ministry," she wrote. In yesterday's statement, Brown said he didn't want to confirm or deny specific allegations but would let a third-party investigation find the truth." - Roys Report
