Along The Edges
By Anthony Wade
Along The Edges
::::::::
Along The Edges
How can we not see?
How do we walk by?
The people on the edge
Hanging by a thread
Due to snap any day now
Any moment in time
Crystallized in our memories
The weathered faces reflect no more
On a calloused heart
His love frees us
Causes us to dare
To dream again, to see again
To rise up with eagles
God is our eyes
We need to see through Him
As Him
With Him
To never overlook the least of these again
Those on the edge
Of reason
Of our sensibilities
Our prejudices
Echoing in the recesses of the dead man we should have left behind.
How can we not hear?
The waves of judgmentalism
Rolling onto the shores of our credibility
Escaping our mouths
Like modern-day Pharisees
We are that man!
From the Prophet Nathan to the streets of Manhattan
To the church
Ineffectual in our commission
Impotent in our screaming at the darkness
Wondering why it does not understand what it cannot
Forgetting where we once were
The darkness that once enveloped us as well
But God
How do we not hear?
The thunder of our own failed criticism
Barbed wired Christianity
The love of Christ lacking
Missing
Surgically removed from our precision
We stand off on a hill
Watching
Waiting for God
To lay waste to our Nineveh
Like Jonah before; we have decided
The course God needs to take
How do we not feel my Lord?
How has all grown cold?
Numb to the pain
Inflicted on those in the world
Crippled at the gate that is called beautiful
Waiting for a reason to believe again
But we pass them by
Seeking in the depths of our own hearts
For the silver and gold
Which we should have not
How do we not feel my Lord?
The eyes upon us from the edges
Of a prodigal wasteland
Needing to see Jesus
Needing to hear Christ
Needing to feel the love of a savior
In a world that saves nothing
And believes in less
May the scales fall from our eyes
And the sweetness of God escape our lips again
May our pitilessness soften
And the people come to us again
From the edges
From our Nineveh
May they come before that single thread snaps
And consigns them to what you have already saved us from
Through your grace and mercy
For we know of our human frailties Lord
Life happens along the way to God
When God should be the life that happens along the way
Christ in us
The hope of glory
The edges needs to see that hope within us again
To bring them back
