Charisma Cites a Half-Verse, Hitler and Slavery to Urge Voting for Donald Trump
By Anthony Wade
Another day, another Charisma News dominionist eviscerating the bible to sell their canrality
::::::::
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. - 2Timothy 2:1-4 (ESV)
Today it was Larry Tomczak's turn to take the dominionist wheel at Charisma News and try to convince and bully their readers into voting for Donald Trump. One of the oft-cited arguments against dominionism is the notion that Christians should stay clear of politics. That is a bit of a red herring argument that is set up like a strawman because it feels easy to knock down. The issue is not that Christians should steer clear of politics but rather that neither side represents the cause of Jesus Christ and one carnal vote is no more righteous than the other. Thus, we should not be caught advocating for our preferred evil, no matter how much we have convinced ourselves that it is somehow "lesser." Charisma however, and Tomczak, are entirely beholden to the Republican Party and their job is to convince their followers that it is their Christian duty to vote for the guy with three marriages, three adulteries, one time with a porn star, six bankruptcies, 34 felonies and a rape conviction, as a Christian imperative. That is a tough sell, so they are constantly rolling out one writer after another to essentially say the same thing and butcher the same bible verses to support their carnality. So, let us reason once more together through Tomczak's latest article linked above, which is trying to sell the uber-dominionist position of mandatory Christian involvement in politics. Thankfully the bible is clearly against him, so the debunking is pretty easy.
'"DISARRAY." One word on the cover of Newsmax magazine describes America today, as an Associated Press poll says: "82% are pessimistic about politics." Christians offer an array of solutions: The pulpit. Voting. Revival. Gospel. Prayer. Church. Awakening. Scripture. Repentance. Second Coming.' - Larry Tomczak
Right Larry. Except the only solution you ever pimp is voting and you tell them who they should vote for. Prayer is always good but the rest of these things are not solutions the apostate church deals in. The bible promises a great end times apostasy, not revival. The problem is false revival is core to NAR dominionist theology. Same for "awakening." The pulpit is listed here to violate the law prohibiting churches from endorsing candidates an represents the worst of dominionism. The pulpit is supposed to be a holy desk for the preaching of His word and the gospel so that men might be saved. Not to sell evil men as righteous who just want to retain or attain power.
'We also hear four different views: God is sovereign. "Stop worrying and simply trust Him. He reigns! He'll bring about the outcome He wills. Vote if you want, but remind yourself, He's sovereign!" Judgment. "These are the end times, and we're under judgment! God's shaking things, so why polish brass on a sinking ship? Get prepared. Turn off the news. Get ready because Jesus is returning soon!" Fears of Christian nationalism. "Watch out for those trying to set up America as a theocracy. They're stirring up hysteria and rage, saying we're being invaded at our border and the economy's collapsing! Their leaders are toxic, making grandiose promises to restore America, but they don't deliver. They're extremists!" Evangelical progressives. The "Shepherds for Sale" book lies and vilifies compassionate Christians. Andy Stanley has homosexuals speak; Tim Keller's church has Trump-hater David French, and Evangelicals for Harris has Billy Graham's granddaughter Jerushah Duford; ministries get bucks from far-Left groups. "'Love your neighbor': That's what open borders, gender care, reproductive freedom and harvesting organs for redemptive purposes are all about."' - Larry Tomczak
It is hard to tell if Larry is mocking God's sovereignty here or not. The bible says that God raises up all leaders. He uses all for His purposes. He will not be surprised on November 6th, I assure you. The second argument is just another red herring. No one is credibly arguing fatalism, oh well, these are the end times so just give up. That is absurd. The third argument defines the NAR. They are trying to establish a theocracy, whether or not they have the honestly to admit it to themselves. When you advocate for public policy to enforce your beliefs, that is the textbook definition of a theocracy. They are trying to stir up hysteria. Larry is chief among the stirrers. In the run up to 2020, all we heard about was this horrific migrant caravan heading to the US border. Story after story, reposted and retweeted by gullible Christians. Stirring up hate against our neighbors. After Trump lost of course, we never heard about this mythical caravan again. This time around we are hearing racist tales of eating pets, so it sure sounds like hysteria to me. Just one word on the last item here. I cannot speak to "progressive" Christian sources but accepting money is a bad thing? Then speak to Franklin Graham who only built the bridge for Donald Trump to the evangelical vote AFTER Trump donated six figures to both of the "charities" he runs. By the way, those charities pay Graham over one million dollars per year in salaries. We no longer know the exact amount because Graham lobbied the IRS to change these charities to a "collective of churches" to avoid having to disclose how much money he grifts from them. Cause you know, Jesus.
"Should we stay out of politics? Allow me, along with some significant historical icons, to share Scriptures, suggestions and what I hope is sage advice to help us navigate wisely. Is it true that Jesus never got involved in politics, only in preaching the gospel and building the church? He did say, "My kingdom is not of this world" (John 18:36a, NIV) to assure Pilate He was not fomenting rebellion to take over by force, but the reality remains that He was engaged in establishing a countercultural upside-down kingdom to impact the world, not merely provide religious services. "These men who have turned the world upside down have come here" (Acts 17:6b, ESV). Jesus was not a passive sideliner. He even upended tables and confronted corrupt money-changers in the temple (church). Jesus did pledge to "build My church" (Matt. 16:18), but He wasn't speaking primarily about short and sweet, neatly packaged Sunday services. Church refers to "called-out ones," directed to "make disciples " teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you " (Matt. 28:19-20, NIV)." - Larry Tomczak
He was doing what? The arrogance Tomczak and the NAR knows no bounds. The disciples turned the world upside down by preaching the gospel, not voting for a new Roman Emperor. These kinds of ridiculous biblical references are hallmarks of NAR teaching. Jesus was completely apolitical and most definitely a passive sideliner when it came to the politics of His day. That was always the great lament from His followers. That He did not deliver them from Rome. Making disciples has nothing to do with voting and carnal politics. Nothing. The NAR love to point to upending the tables as some kind of sign of political displeasure and involvement but this was in the TEMPLE. The money changers were price gouging those that were visiting to provide sacrifices. He even said after that they had turned His Father's house into a den of robbers. This had absolutely nothing to do with the politics of Rome. It had to do with the mismanagement of the faith. Ironically, Larry Tomczak would be akin to the money changers that Jesus through out of the temple. Building His church as nothing to do with voting for any candidate.
"Politics refers to "the activities associated with the governance of a people." This includes electing leaders; defense; taxing; initiating programs (such as Social Security); paving roads; establishing schools, police and fire departments plus hospitals, speed limits, trash removal, safety measures (such as seatbelts) and more. Politics encompasses many areas of our lives, including growing threats to our national security. We're part of what theologians call the "church triumphant" in heaven, but now we're in the --church militant." As salt, we're to hold back decay; "stand" ((four times) against insidious spiritual forces (Eph. 6:10-18) as a "good soldier" (2 Tim. 2:3) while pastors equip us as captains on a battleship, not a Love Boat designed to keep us happy and entertained. We're to kick in the gates of hell, not sit back passively or be in retreat. "Give me 100 men of God who hate nothing but sin and desire nothing but God and we will shake the gates of hell and see the kingdom of God in our generation!" " John Wesley." - Larry Tomczak
This is further classic bible butchering in defense of NAR dominionism. Salt does hold back decay but that is achieved through how we represent Christ and His gospel. Not by demanding carnal votes for unrighteous men. Not in assuming legislation is somehow righteous. The problem again, is that the "insidious spiritual forces" are only sold to be Democratic candidates. Charisma has already had Greg Locke and Mario Murillo write that anyone who votes for a Democratic candidate for any office, is a hell bound reprobate. They had Jack Hibbs float the vacuously stupid argument that Jesus will be waiting for us on Judgment Day with our voting record in His hand. Never a thought is given to the pure evil of their choice. Perhaps the biggest biblical absurdity however is in half-quoting 2Timothy 2:3. I made the entire verse in context our key verses above so we can learn to spot how evil men abuse the bible for their own worldly politics. It is true that verse three uses the phrase "good soldier" but it is only used on relation to SUFFERING. Join me in suffering as a good soldier. As if God wrote this to debunk dominionism, He even explains further that no soldier gets entangled with civilian affairs! Voting and politics are civilian affairs! The church is not a battleship! Our weapons are not carnal or of this world! We are not called to kick in the gates of hell! Stop the stupidity please. Prayer is not passive. Intercession is not retreating. Trusting in the sovereignty of God is neither. Tomczak now turns to citing random people throughout the thousands of years of church history, and tries to say, hey, they were political. First of all, citing other human beings indicates to me that you have run out of bible verses to butcher. There were however some interesting citations he used.
"John Wesley (1703-1791) was ousted from dead formal churches in England. He called for passionate preaching, holy living and societal engagement. He addressed slavery, the slave trade, prison reform, free medical dispensaries, establishing schools and speaking out against gambling, drunkenness and other societal ills. Methodist minister William Booth (1829-1912) inspired Christians to rise as the army of God, bringing "salvation, soup and soap" to humanity. One of my oldest books comes from 1890 and is a blueprint for cultural engagement called "In Darkest England and the Way Out." There are thousands of Salvation Army churches in 134 countries, and they're not just ringing bells at Christmas! Pastor John Newton (who wrote "Amazing Grace") charged William Wilberforce in political engagement to pray and persevere in ending the slave trade in England. He eventually succeeded in abolishing it, which later impacted America. Wilberforce told us, "A private faith that does not act in the face of oppression is no faith at all. Scripture teaches, 'Faith without works is dead,'" (James 2:17). When influential leaders remain silent or discourage political involvement, they need to repent and recalibrate to follow the example of Wilberforce, who said, "You may choose to look the other way, but you can never say again that you did not know." In the 1930s, Hitler's National Socialist party gained power due to deception, complacency and pastoral cowardice. Germany went from democracy to dictatorship to demise in six years. Pastor, prophet and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer warned us, "Silence in the face of evil is evil itself."
This is so sad and selective. For every preacher calling for the end of slavery, I can find ten who used to bible to justify it, and Hitler? Are you serious? So, according to Larry Tomczak, voting for Donald Trump is akin to fighting the Nazis or defeating slavery. How transparently evil. So, if you are a pastor who uses his pulpit for preaching the gospel, you need to repent according to Charisma News. That beloved, is the NAR in a nutshell. The Democratic Party is not oppressing anyone. These comparisons are asinine. By the way, fighting societal ills, providing soup and soap or whatever catch slogans you want is perfectly fine but they have noting to do with politics and voting.
We mustn't take our unalienable rights in America for granted but cherish and protect them when our enemies try to take them away. "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other" " President John Adams. In the face of injustice and tyranny in America's Revolutionary War, it was the pastors who challenged the 50% of the colonists who sheepishly acquiesced as loyalists to tyrannical King George and his thugs. They were called "The Black Robe Regiment." In the Civil War era and afterward, it was Christian leaders and abolitionists who championed the cause. Abraham Lincoln, pastors Charles Finney and Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman of the Underground Railroad and others who refused to sit silent and cowardly. Then Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. picked up the baton. Imagine if pastors and prophets had stayed out of politics in U.S. history!" - Larry Tomczak
The NAR loves glorifying the America Revolution, which was entirely related to economics and entirely violated Romans 13. John Adams was indeed a believer but he was rare among the Founding Fathers. George Washington was a third-degree mason and slave-owner until he died. Thomas Jefferson rewrote the bible to remove any reference to the deity of Jesus Christ because he did not believe He was the Son of God. The underground railroad is not an indicator that Christians today should vote for Donald Trump! Stop insulting God and our intelligence! Things like Hitler's Germany and the slave trade transcended politics. They should not be cheapened as such.
'Our nation is in serious peril because we've ignored the warning of Founding Father Ben Franklin, "Passions rule, and they rarely rule wisely." Pastors and God's people can no longer abdicate our assignment for righteousness. It's time for turnaround! "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man rules, the people groan" (Prov. 29:2, NKJV). Hear the groaning? The hour has come for us to rise and reclaim our role as transformative agents in our society, sensitizing the conscience of our citizenry. King told us, "The church is not the master or the servant of the state but rather is the conscience. " If it does not recapture its prophetic role, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority!" For those who think we must maintain the status quo, maintaining peace at any price and never disrupting or bringing disunity, consider the words of Jesus: "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law and a person's enemies will be those of his own household" (Matt. 10:34-36, ESV). "Don't rock the boat? When there is deception, I don't want to rock the boat, I want to sink it!" " Dr. Walter Martin.
You're the deception Larry. Because you keep selling the profane as holy. So, you think voting for the rapist is an assignment for righteousness? You think electing Donald Trump is placing righteousness in authority? You see what Tomczak is saying of course. If we "hear the groaning" then the current president is wicked and Mr. Trump, is the righteous solution. Ugh. There is only ONE thing that is transformative in society and that is the gospel. It alone has the power of God unto the salvation of man. Dr. King's statement here was about the abuses of African Americans and segregation. Larry saved the best bible butchering for last. The sword Jesus speaks of is the gospel, not voting for your partisan carnality. Our unity is found at the foot of the cross with faith in the finished work - not a political party. Dear Lord, there is no scripture sacred to Larry Tomczak. This entire article and all of Charisma News is deception. It is designed to convince the churched that God wants them to vote for a truly evil man under the patina of faux-righteousness. The bible is crystal clear. Jesus did not get involved at all politically because His kingdom is not of this world. The NAR however loves this world and the sin it allows so they are trying constantly to sell you revival or awakening. All there is however, is the great apostasy and it is well under way with Larry Tomczak and Charisma News leading the way.
