"You shall have no other gods before me. - Exodus 20:3 (ESV)

Above everything, NAR dominionism is rooted in rebellion against the very first commandment, listed today as the key verse. God is quite serious about idolatry and that does not always mean bowing down to literal false gods. It means whatever we make a god in our life and place ahead of our true Father. That includes money, fame, power, and in the case of the dominionist, the secular world we enjoy. When asked about this world, Jesus always said His kingdom was not of this world. When asked repeatedly to intervene regarding the politics of His day, Rome, He refused. Jesus was entirely apolitical. NAR dominionists always try to leverage His outspokenness with the Pharisees but that was a religious issue for Jesus, not a political one. One of the most egregious NAR dominionist culture warriors disguised as a Christian is Eddie Hyatt. I love reviewing his work because he is so bad at both history and the bible that debunking is easy. Eddie lies with impunity regarding American history to set up his false biblical narratives. One of the cornerstone arguments for Eddie is that America is under attack from godless lefties who are dismantling Christianity. Of course, nothing is further from the truth. People just rightly push back when Eddie and his ilk try and force Christianity upon people who do not share the faith. The truly sad thing is Eddie thinks this is somehow a Christian duty when Christ never asked us to force faith upon people. Eddie does it of course because he worships this country and the sin excess it encourages and allows. His masters are political forces within the Republican Party as he leads people to hate the very people that need the gospel the most. Let us reason once more together beloved.

"I do not support an Americanized Christianity, but I am passionately contending for a Christianized America. It was the influence of Christianity that gave America the prosperity and freedoms that have been the envy of nations all over the world. The same can be true of any nation, for as the psalmist declared, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Ps. 33:12a).

America is now in trouble because there has been a decades-long war to dismantle Christianity in America. When President Joe Biden declared March 31, which happened to be Easter Sunday, "Transgender Visibility Day," it was not done in a vacuum. Neither was the White House ban of any messages about Jesus or His Resurrection on children's eggs at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll." - Eddie Hyatt

At a bare minimum, Christians are supposed to stand for the truth. We believe, represent and in large part try to preach the gospel on the basis of knowing absolute truth. Yet the compromised NAR church seemingly has no compunction about lying when it comes to politics. As such, it exposes itself as entirely carnal in nature. In this opening paragraph, Hyatt lies twice. The first is that Biden declared March 31 as Transgender Visibility Day. He did no such thing. It turns out March 31 has been recognized as such since 2009 and yes, that includes the four years when Donald Trump was president. What changed? The date of Easter obviously. It rotates every year and this year; it fell on March 31. It has nothing to do with the fake victimization Eddie peddles. The second lie is even worse as the instruction to not have ANY religious symbols, not just Christian ones, has been in place for over 45 years through administrations from both parties, including Trump. Hyatt's distorted view of history only equals his evisceration of the bible. He knows nothing about either. To contend for a "Christianized America", means he is pushing for a theocracy. God has not instructed us to try and force faith upon anyone, let alone create a theocracy. His fanciful rewrite of American history omits all of the bad that comes along with the good. The larger point here remains his incessant lying while pretending to represent Christ. It is an insult to our collective intelligence and faith. If people see that you are willing to lie about so little, why would they ever believe you about the gospel?

"These were merely the fruit of this 60-plus year push to de-Christianize America. We have now reached a defining moment in our history, and it is time for all freedom-loving Americans to push back with the truth about the positive, life-giving role of Christianity in America. For the first 150 years of America's existence, no one questioned the axiom, "America is a Christian nation." This did not mean that the nation officially sanctioned any church, sect or denomination. America was considered Christian because the vast majority of its citizens identified as Christian, and its laws and institutions were founded on Christian principles and values. John Marshall, who served as America's second chief justice of the Supreme Court from 1801-35, made this point very clear when he wrote, "No person, I believe, questions the importance of religion in the happiness of man, even during his existence in this world. The American population is entirely Christian, and with us Christianity and religion are identified. It would be strange, indeed, if with such a people, our institutions did not presuppose Christianity, and did not refer to it, and exhibit relations with it" (Hyatt, "1726: The Year that Defined America," 169)." - Eddie Hyatt

First of all, let me point out the academically criminal habit Hyatt always engages in, which is pretending to be quoting a source when the source is just himself. So, Hyatt writes something ridiculous and then sources it in an article such as this. Thus, he promotes the book the quote comes from while duping those that do not realize he is quoting himself, into thinking he has "researched" the topic. He has not. He notion that America was always known as Christian is equally silly. Were there more Christians percentage wise in the 1700s? Sure, but that was the case around the world as well. Mormonism, which has 17 million people today did not start until the 1800s, for example. The other habit Eddie is fond of is finding selective quotes and then broadly applying them as if that opinion was the norm. for every quote he might be able to scrounge for, I can find two on the other side as well. John Marshall may have indeed felt this way about Christianity but he also owned slaves his entire life, aggressively purchasing them.

'This fact was also stated by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1892 in the case of Church of the Holy Trinity vs The United States. After examining thousands of historical documents, the nation's highest court declared, There is no dissonance in these declarations. There is a universal language pervading them all, having one meaning. They affirm and reaffirm that this is a religious nation . . . From the discovery of this continent to the present hour, there is a single voice making this affirmation. These and many other matters which might be noticed, add a volume of unofficial declarations to the mass of organic utterances that this is a Christian nation (Hyatt, 6-7). This reality was expressed in American culture by Bible reading and prayer being common occurrences in all kinds of public settings since the nation's founding. Until the 1960s, it was common for school days, school activities, sporting events, city council meetings and other public events to be opened with prayer. Bible verses, crosses and Ten Commandment displays were common on public property. The nation was shocked, therefore, when, in two Supreme Court rulings, Engel vs. Vitale (1962) and Abingdon School District vs. Schempp (1963), the nation's highest court banned school-sponsored prayer and Bible reading in the public schools of America. This ruling was based on a contorted and novel interpretation of the First Amendment that reads, "Congress shall make no law concerning the establishment of religion, or hindering the free exercise thereof."' - Eddie Hyatt

Once again, this country is not a theocracy and we have not been charged with making it one. Here is today's deep theology, if God is no respecter of person, then He is certainly no respecter of country. Bible reading was not banned in the Engel and Schempp decisions. School sponsored bible reading, and prayer was. Despite what Eddie thinks, this nation was never a Christian nation. There have always been other religions allowed in and encouraged to emigrate. One of the principal reasons why early settlers came was to escape religious persecution. If one understands our history, then we realize that the Supreme Court decisions in the 60's were born out of the increase in bat-poop crazy fundamentalism under the McCarthy era. Men with weak ideas and morals have always leveraged the bible to recruit Christians just like we see today. Two of the things that people like Hyatt like to point to as proof of our Christian heritage as a nation is "under God" in the pledge and "In God We Trust" on the currency. The problem is both of those things did not emerge until the red scare of the 1950s. the bottom line here is there is nothing "Christian" about forcing children to pray, especially if they do not come from Christian families. What is also comical here is that Hyatt just finished extolling John Marshall and is now bashing the court. So, it is a bastion of goodness when it agrees with Hyatt and reprehensible otherwise. Got it.

'This ruling opened the floodgates of anti-Christian activism. Since that time, lawsuits filed by atheist/secularist organizations have resulted in the removal of crosses, Ten Commandment displays and other Christian expressions from public property. Veterans groups and military chaplains have been told they cannot pray in the name of Jesus. A high school band in Mississippi was ordered by a judge to remove "How Great Thou Art" from the repertoire of songs they played at football games and other school events. The ACLJ, a law firm that defends many of these cases, has said, "Atheists and anti-Christian extremists continuously rush to court, claiming to be offended." This crusade to de-Christianize America came starkly out into the open when President Barak Obama announced to a Turkish audience on April 6, 2009, "America is not a Christian nation."' - Eddie Hyatt

The blatant lying continues. The actual quote from Obama was that we are "no longer JUST a Christian nation." So, irony of ironies, Obama's quote actually agrees with Hyatt's premise that we were once a Christian nation! The 2009 quote says similarly that we are not just a Christian nation or a Muslim nation but rather a nation bound by certain ideals. He correctly points out that there are many different cultures now comprising the American melting pot. Lie number four is in regard to How Great Thou Art. If Hyatt had bother to research, he would have discovered that a student sued the school board and won for violations of his first amendment rights regarding many Christian influences on education in that state. The state was then fined the following year for prayer at the graduation ceremony. The school board, NOT a judge, decided to no longer sing How Great Thou Art. It was removed by choice, not banned by a judge. Hyatt and the NAR still doesn't get this. Not everyone shares out faith. Narrow is the path, and few are those who find it. Forcing the unsaved, especially children, to behave like Christians, or say things that might sound Christian, saves nobody.

"In addition to the attack on Christian speech and symbols, there has been a purposeful revising of America's history, eliminating the stories of faith that are so common in the nation's founding. This attempt to redefine America by rewriting her history is a vital part of the secularist goal to fundamentally transform the America of Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Lincoln." - Eddie Hyatt

In Freudian terms, this is known as "projection." All Hyatt engages in is a rewrite of history! So, let's start with the founding fathers he references here. Hyatt is fond of trying to morph poor George Washington into an Evangelical, but the reality is that he was a Mason of the highest order. Masonry stood opposed to Christianity. It claims to be the "essence of all religions." Even though it appears that towards the end of his life, Washington softened his stance with Christianity, he still owned slaves his entire life and left them to his wife. Madison is credited with saying that religion was a matter of individual conscience and could not be directed by the government in any way. This seems very much opposed to the Eddie Hyatt position. Lincoln's history is a bit spotty. He often quoted scripture and also wrote against Christianity. He actually lost a Congressional race because he was perceived as hostile to Christianity. This led him to be more private about his faith for the rest of his life. The one that truly stands out here is Thomas Jefferson. Why Eddie continues to lift him up is mind boggling. Thomas Jefferson was a deist at best. He denied the divinity of Christ, denied he was the son of God, and rewrote the bible removing His miracles and deistic references. This is the problem Hyatt has in trying to recreate history. There are just too many stubborn facts. Google the Jefferson Bible for yourself. Now, there were true believers among the founders, including John Adams for example but to pretend they were all holding tent meeting revivals is disingenuous at best and flat out lying at worst.

"Nations derive their sense of identity from their history. Remove or revise a people's history and those people are then vulnerable to be molded into something new and different. This is what Karl Marx was referring to when he wrote, "People without a heritage are easily persuaded."

The most recent attempt to dismantle Christianity in America by rewriting her past is the 1619 Project of The New York Times. Supposedly instituted to commemorate the arrival of the first African slaves to America in 1619, its stated goal is to "reframe" American history by claiming that 1619, not 1776, represents the country's true founding. According to the 1619 Project, America is racist and corrupt at its core and in need of fundamental change. Slavery, to be sure, is a blight on America's history. However, because of 1726, America is not defined by what happened in 1619. The Great Awakening that began in 1726 broke down racial and cultural barriers and unleashed the spiritual and moral forces that eventually brought an end to slavery in America. It also had a direct bearing on the founding of this nation." - Eddie Hyatt

Typical NAR interjecting the Marxist boogey-man, but Hyatt fails to see how his argument works against him as well. Creating a false heritage to push your modern-day political agenda is no better than persuading people in the other direction. They are both based on making people vulnerable to be molded into the image you prefer. I pass no judgment on the 1619 project who are simply trying to point out that this country was built upon the backs of slaves who were brought over to this country starting in 1619. What I will call nonsense on is the notion that there was a revival in 1726 that ended slavery. Hyatt not only tries to sell this, but he wrote a book about it. Slavery, however, would not be ended for 137 years after 1726 and only after a brutal Civil War. The south was clearly never "revived" and many in the south remain the same way to this day. The United States was one of the last countries to end their slave trade. We were not forerunners.

"Proclaiming this truth about America's history is critical, for as George Orwell said in his classic book "1984," "Whoever controls the past, controls the future." And commenting on the demise of nations in world history, Carl Sandburg, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes, said, "When a nation goes down, or a society perishes, one condition may always be found; they forgot where they came from. They lost sight of what had brought them along" (Hyatt, 11). Proclaiming the truth of how America was birthed out of a great, spiritual awakening is of paramount importance. This "Great Awakening," which began in 1726, gave birth to an anti-slavery movement and resulted in America's founders turning against slavery at a time it was accepted and practiced in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and most of the world (Hyatt, 90)." - Eddie Hyatt

This may explain why Hyatt is so bent on controlling history by rewriting what occurred. The Sandburg quote might have merit if Hyatt were not lying so much. By forcing a different version of history, Hyatt is essentially trying to force people to remember where they really came from. The truth is we are a great secular nation. The best human experiment in history. We have done this world a great good through the years but hardly perfect. We were built on slavery and the inhumane treatment of the "others" remains not only a blight in our history but a continuing feature in our country today. Hyatt gives up the game here though. In order for his false narrative to work, he needs to proclaim 1726 and ignore 1619. To me, we should probably stick to 1776 and not rewrite in either direction. Our nation however was birthed in rebellion for financial considerations, not some pious cause.

"As a result, America's founding documents are colorblind, with no classifications based on race, ethnicity or skin color. It was the influence of Christianity that made this possible and also enabled the nation to abolish slavery and defeat Jim Crow, segregation and so many other societal ills. Yes, it is time to push back against the dismantling of Christianity in America. I, therefore, invite you to join thousands of others and me in this fight for our heritage of faith and freedom. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King would all agree." - Eddie Hyatt

Again, Hyatt pretends that revival struck America in 1726 that ended slavery, but slavery did not end for another 137 years. What ended slavery was not enlightenment but rather the slaughter of over 600,000 people in the Civil War. Surely Eddie must realize that if the South had won that war, slavery would not have ended at all! Southern Christians and Christian leaders used the bible to promote that slavery was somehow ordained, so spare us the false pious rewrite. It is too transparent. Defeat Jim Crow? That was over another hundred years, and many will argue it is still being waged. Eddie's absurd racism is showing too clearly. Follow his logic. According to Eddie Hyatt there was an awakening revival in America in 1726. He points to this event as what changed our minds about slavery, finally ending the practice in 1863. Then that "momentum" carried on eliminating Jim Crow, which grew out of slavery, over another hundred years later. That is one heck of a revival Eddie. What is worse is the swearing that dead historical figures would agree with this garbage. Dr. King would not agree with such stupidity and subterfuge. He worked his entire life against people like Eddie Hyatt. Look, this country has been a grand experiment in secular government but that does not mean it has always been right. It is only human arrogance to pretend otherwise. To minimize the slave trade and our role in it. To completely ignore the genocide of the indigenous people of the land we stole. To pretend that the revolution was anything other than a carnal decision based on money. To ignore the sweat shops of the Industrial Revolution, the Civil War, American colonialism, wars based on greed and oil and the list can just go on and on. Through all of our good, which can also be listed exhaustively, it mixes with our bad and despite this, the church has prevailed. The remnant still stands but the most glaring obstacle is no longer an unsaved populace to preach the gospel to but a false church pretending that Jesus Christ is more concerned about the Ten Commandments being displayed in front of a courthouse than about our obedience to those commandments in our lives. Do not fall for the last idol of the church age, dominionism. Mark and avoid political shills like Eddie Hyatt. If your own church is more concerned about preaching politics than the gospel, then it time to find one that cares more about the cause of Christ. Be not deceived.
