In full disclosure I had not really looked into Torben Sondergaard until I saw the above linked Charisma News article. It seems there has been a bit of a kerfuffle lately within the apostate, NAR, dominionist church regarding Mr. Sondergaard. I have seen Shawn Bolz interview him. I have seen Isaiah Saldivar defend him. Now they have even dispatched Dr. Michael Brown to defend him. Why? Because Torben Sondergaard has been deported after spending time in prison. While a criminal like this should be anathema for Christian leadership, the NAR eats it up because it feeds into their "persecution" narrative. As we researched this however, we discover that not only is Torben a horrific false teacher and grifter but he is most definitely guilty on the substance. The sadly ironic thing is that the NAR has done back flips to prop up the Republican Party line on immigration - if it is on the southern border. But this is a white man from Europe, who also plies the same apostate church grift that they do so they feel compelled to protect the brand and try to use this to advance the political goals of the NAR. Let us reason once more together and remember, this guy is being defended by the apostate church as they are speaking wickedness against the brown people trying to get into this country as well.
"When Torben Søndergaard and his family fled religious persecution in Denmark in 2019, they thought they would find refuge in the United States. They never expected the treatment they would receive from the U.S. government. Leaving Denmark with only their suitcases, Søndergaard continued his ministry, The Last Reformation, in America." - CBN News
Perhaps one of the worst aspects of the NAR dominionist movement is the utter deception and lies. We expect subterfuge in politics but not from people claiming to be leaders in the church. Torben Sondergaard did not flee Denmark because of religious persecution. Denmark is a first world country. They knew that Sondergaard was a charlatan using religion to bilk money out of people. He was going to be arrested for practicing medicine without a license. In Denmark, they rank the public good over things like being able to lie and calling it freedom of religion. Torben claimed he could cast autism out of people. He claimed he could cast cancer out of people. Before the biblically challenged get apoplectic - I am not saying God could not do these things in His sovereignty. I am saying the grifter pretending to be a preacher cannot. So, Sondergaard, realizing he was about to be arrested, fled to the United States. The problem was he did not have a Visa. Thankfully for him, Denmark is one of the countries where you can enter without a Visa, as long as you do not stay more than 90 days. Torben stayed for years and set up his business/ministry here. There is a word for this - illegal.
"Then last year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials canceled Søndergaard's visa waiver without his knowledge and arrested him. First, authorities told him it was for charges of gun smuggling. Then it was changed to overstaying his visa. The Christian minister was incarcerated in the federal wing of the Baker County Jail in Macclenny, Florida, spending his first 10 days in solitary confinement. He told us he was forced to wear a red jumpsuit, which is used to identify high-risk and violent inmates, even though he has no criminal background.
After 412 days in jail, more than a year, Søndergaard was deported to Denmark, which he immediately left to reunite with his family in another, undisclosed nation." - CBN News
The lies continue with impunity. ICE did not cancel his waiver. It expired. No wait, it expired years ago. That was why he was arrested because that is the protocol when you are an illegal immigrant in this country! It is true that in addition to the Visa issue he was initially charged with gun smuggling and it is true that it appears they decided to not pursue that. The clever little lie here is they did not "change" to overstaying his Visa - that was what he was arrested for! The protocol then is for him to remain in jail until deported, after all legal wrangling is over. That is exactly what happened. He was in the federal wing because it is a federal crime. I cannot answer the charge of confinement and the red jumpsuit thing but given nothing else has been truthful, I am going to assume these are lies as well. By the way, running away from arrest in Denmark is why he has "no criminal history!" Of course, he immediately ran away from Denmark again because he still did not want to be arrested. This is the Christian cause? This guy? Oh, and by the way, his claim for asylum was also denied and in the decision is this little nugget:
The court can not find that the defendant has ever been persecuted, or that he would ever be subjected to any well founded fear of persecution in the future... He claims that if he returns to Denmark he will be arrested and tortured. Denmark does not participate in any type of torture against its citizens... The court finds that these claims are not reasonable or even grounded in reality... We can not find that he has faced any past persecution, nor can we find any potential for future persecution and his application must be denied.
