"What's ironic is that I wrote a book in 1991 titled Whatever Happened to the Power of God: Is the Charismatic Church 'Slain in the Spirit' or Down for the Count, addressing abuses in our movement. And in April of this year, I have a new, quite different, and far more detailed book coming out titled Playing with Holy Fire: A Wake-up Call to the Charismatic-Pentecostal Church. So, yes, there are serious abuses in our movement, and we've done a poor job of self-policing, hence the need for this book. But none of this is enough for the hypercritics. Unless I affirm that Bill Johnson and Mike Bickle are hell-bound false teachers, I am sub-orthodox and highly suspect, if even saved." - Dr. Michael Brown
In fairness, I have not read his books but I seriously doubt he will call out any false teacher and therein lies the disconnect he suffers from. It is not enough to correctly point out the problems or heresies you might find if you refuse to point out who is teaching them! Worse than that if you then support the teachers who teach the very things you speak against! As pointed out before, Brown has an excellent book on the dangers of hyper grace but then cozies up to and endorses Joseph Prince, who is the undeniable king of hyper grace! Brown then gets into some history with people like John MacArthur and even defends some of the most heretical worship acts such as Bethel, Hillsong and IHOP. Those are topics for a separate devotional so let me just conclude with this:
"The real shame is that the world is dying without God and America is sinking into moral and spiritual oblivion, yet rather than us coming together as believers to make a glorious impact for Jesus, we are condemning each other and sniping at each other and warring against each other." - Dr. Michael Brown
Beloved, the Bible says that only the true Gospel has the power of God unto the salvation of man. Only the Gospel saves. Not sneaky squids, glory clouds, dominionist theology, or the New Apostolic Reformation. Who we defend and share the stage with does matter. The Bible says we are either gathering people to Christ or scattering them away. I am sorry Dr. Brown but pointing people to Bill Johnson, Benny Hinn, Jennifer Leclaire, and Mike Bickle is scattering them away. To build up Christian bonafides for decades only to squander them away by directing the sheep to the wolves makes you very dangerous. To then berate anyone who might try to correct you and declare that they must all somehow be the problem? That makes you delusional.
