" Suppose one of the people or one of the prophets or priests asks you, "What prophecy has the Lord burdened you with now?' You must reply, "You are the burden! The Lord says he will abandon you!' - Jeremiah 23: 33 (NLT)
Did you know that the year 2014 is supposed to be a year of double blessing? Of double portion? Of double prosperity? Of double anointing (whatever that is supposed to be). How could you not see that? Since seven is the number of completion and 14 is two sevens; it should have been obvious! Heck I cannot wait until 2049 so I can get a seven times blessing since 49 is seven sevens...hey maybe I should play the lottery tonight! Sounds absurd? Not according the false prophetess Cindy Jacobs:

I want you to seriously listen to this snake oil saleswoman for at least ten minutes. Listen to all of the absolutely absurd things she prophesies. Everything is puppies and rainbows. Everything is sugar coated and and jelly filled. The best thing is that these prophecies appear to be for everyone! Everyone is going to have a year filled with the double blessings of God, simply because it is 2014! She further claims God told her "Grand Council of Prophetic Elders" that abortion was going to be overturned! That the liberal media would proclaim the Word of the Lord! That we will be recovering the anointing God took from the US in 1973 when abortion was legalized. Huh?
Not content with all of that blasphemy, she also prophesies straight word faith heresy. That we cannot possibly see the "door of hope" if we are not flipping our "expecting switch" to the "on" position. She shares that this door of hope theology springs from a verse God gave the council "prophetically."
I will return her vineyards to her and transform the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope. She will give herself to me there, as she did long ago when she was young, when I freed her from her captivity in Egypt. - Hosea 2: 15 (NLT)
This is another glaring example of the what is wrong with the plethora of false prophets and teachers we see today. They wrest Scripture horribly out of context to prop up a point to make their listeners feel good. There is a door of hope! Here is a Scripture that says door of hope! See? God is confirming. No He is not. This is the same twisted logic supporters of Joseph Prince use to defend his hyper grace heresy. As soon as you say you disagree with Prince you are bombarded with every Bible verse that contains the word "grace"; as if the argument was about whether the word appears in the Gospel or not. This verse from Hosea is part of the overall theme of Hosea, which is an adulterous people and a God (husband) who is willing to forgive her. No discussion from "Prophetess" Jacobs about sin - I mean who wants this ooey-gooey vibe broken up by having to look inward. No discussion about the forgiveness of God and our need to repent. That doesn't fit her deceptive model of "prophecy."
Beloved, prophecy does not work like this. It does not work the slick marketed way of the Cindy Jacobs and New Apostolic Reformation of the world. Every day now we see more and more new "schools" of supernatural ministries popping up across Christendom. The gifts of the Spirit were not meant to be "taught."
It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. - 1Corinthians 12: 11 (NLT)
You cannot subvert the sovereignty of God and think you can establish a "prophetic culture" where the Spirit has not decided one belongs. The modern prophetic culture on display from the Cindy Jacobs of the world is simply demonic. It is demonic because it pretends to be something from God but takes people's focus off of Him. Think seriously about the vast majority of the junk she was "prophesying" in that video clip. Were they about the glory of God or the personal glory of man? Think seriously about the ministry of Jesus Christ, who understood the correct role of prophesying:
Anyone who doesn't love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. - John 14: 24 (NLT)
The folks of the New Apostolic Reformation ilk actually think that getting 65% of your prophecies correct is somehow acceptable! I wrote last week about a self appointed apostle who prophesied that God told him the Denver Broncos were going to win the Super Bowl! These are not prophecies. They are veiled clairvoyance and dabbling in the demonic spiritual realm. In her video here Jacobs states simply that the Bible is a "book of numbers" in explaining how she came to decide that 2014 was a year of double blessing. That is what the Word of God has been reduced to when you deal with charlatans like this. The Bible is the power of God unto the salvation of men! Not some numerology experiment you can package with focus group tested catch phrases and sell with slick marketing schemes. Well, the sad reality is you can do those things but you strip the power of salvation out of the equation. You end up with people chasing the false prophecies for their temporal lives instead of realizing their sin condition before a holy God and repenting to be saved for their eternal life.
Think of the lives of the apostles. Their focus was the same as the focus Jesus had - spread the Gospel so as many may be saved as possible. Did the Apostle Paul walk into any of those Greek cities and start telling them how great the next year was going to be for them? Did the Apostle Peter tell those on Pentecost that they were going to receive a double portion of blessing or that they crucified the one that came to save them? I look at the story of Simon the Sorcerer in the Book of Acts as an example of the false prophet spirit we have infecting our faith today. Remember, Simon had all of the spotlight, fame and fortune before Phillip showed up on the scene:
A man named Simon had been a sorcerer there for many years, amazing the people of Samaria and claiming to be someone great. Everyone, from the least to the greatest, often spoke of him as "the Great One--the Power of God." They listened closely to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his magic. - Acts 8: 9-11 (NLT)
This is the current spirit of false prophecy and teaching in the modern church. Cindy Jacobs just amazed the crowd in that video, claiming to be someone great. After all she refers to herself as "General" Jacobs and a "prophetess" who is part of that "council of elders" she likes to brag about. She astounded everyone with her bold predictions of greed and prosperity for all. Just what the itching ears were looking to hear. Like Simon the Sorcerer, she has a lot of religion. Simon joined Phillip and was baptized. The Bible actually says he believed! But deep in his heart the same spirit that made him the focus and not God still lurked and when he saw Peter lay hands on people so they might receive the power of the Holy Ghost - he offered money for the same power. Revealing his motives were not about the kingdom, but about himself. Peter rebuked him harshly as he ought to have done.
Cindy Jacobs is just a microcosm of the demonic spirit of false prophecy that is corroding the Body of Christ today. Like Simon the Sorcerer, she says she believes. She understands all the religiosity that is needed to play the part. She understands all the cultural catch phrases and Christianisms to sound the part. But deep in her heart it is not about God. It is about her. Deep in her heart she simply wants to buy the power of God - or at least sell it. The only sad difference in these stories is that there are precious few Peter's left to rebuke her for what she is. What we need to do is what the key verses teach us to do. When the false prophets of today want to ask us about the burden of prophecy we need to respond that YOU - Cindy Jacobs are the burden. Thankfully, the Lord says He will abandon you.
